Frequently Asked Questions

What is Taekwondo, and who can participate?

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that emphasizes discipline, confidence, and physical fitness through techniques like kicks, strikes, and forms. At Nixa Taekwondo Academy, we welcome students of all skill levels, with regular taekwondo classes for 2nd grade and above, and our Little Warriors program for kindergarten through 1st grade.

Who is the instructor at Nixa Taekwondo Academy?

Our chief instructor, Billy Taylor (Mr. T), is a 4th-degree black belt with nearly 30 years of taekwondo experience. Training since 1994 alongside his father, Mr. Taylor Sr., he brings a passion for teaching and a commitment to fostering confidence, discipline, and strength in every student.

What are the class schedules and how do I enroll?

We offer classes for various age groups and skill levels throughout the week. Check our class schedule for details. To enroll, contact us via our contact form or call us to schedule a trial class and discuss membership options.

What should I expect in a typical class?

Classes include warm-ups, technique drills, forms practice, sparring (for eligible levels), and conditioning, all tailored to the student’s age and skill level. Our supportive environment ensures every student progresses at their own pace while building confidence and discipline.

Do you offer trial classes or family discounts?

Yes, we offer trial classes for new students to experience our program. We also provide family discounts to encourage training together. Contact us at info@nixatkd.com for details on trials and pricing.

How does Nixa Taekwondo Academy support the community?

What are the belt promotion requirements?

At Nixa Taekwondo Academy, we’re not focused on chasing belts and rank, but rather on fostering personal growth, discipline, and mastery of taekwondo techniques. Belt promotions are earned through demonstrating proficiency in techniques, forms, and sparring skills, as well as embodying discipline and respect. Mr. T and our instructors evaluate students regularly to ensure they’re ready for advancement. Testing is generally held once a quarter, with a test fee of $35 to promote to a new rank.

Is the first class free?

Yes, your first class at Nixa Taekwondo Academy is free! This allows new students to try our program, meet Mr. T, and experience our supportive environment. Email us at info@nixatkd.com to schedule your free class.
